Nashotah House Member of WAICU

Founded in 1961, Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) consists of private, nonprofit colleges and universities working together for educational opportunity. Comprising twenty-four independent institutions of higher learning in Wisconsin, membership is limited to accredited, nonprofit institutions, headquartered in Wisconsin. The presidents of these institutions lead WAICU as its board of directors. All of WAICU's programs support educational opportunity, affordability, and accessibility.

WAICU’s mission remains the same: “working together for educational opportunity.” Our top priority is financial aid to students from both the state and federal governments and from employers and foundations. For every service we provide, for every public policy issue for which we advocate, we ask “how does this advance educational opportunity?”

One WAICU chair often cited Tocqueville in saying that WAICU’s raison d’être is “self-interest rightly understood.” Another member president was asked by a business leader to define WAICU’s mission, and he replied, “WAICU is to represent presidents, to speak for presidents, and to do for presidents what they cannot do alone.” WAICU is an association, not a system. Member colleges and universities cherish their independence.

As part of their latest guide to colleges and universities in Wisconsin, WAICU recently published the following about Nashotah House, a long-standing member of the association.

Along the wooded shore of Upper Nashotah Lake, a community committed to the Christian faith carries on the tradition of formation, education, and worship handed down by their predecessors over 175 years ago. Nashotah offers an education that not only informs the mind but forms the heart. This mission to train spiritual leaders in the Anglican heritage remains unchanged since our founding. Whether you desire to be a well-equipped lay person or ordained clergy, Nashotah House welcomes all to our community. Nashotah House’s strong Anglo-Catholic heritage, married to a high view of the scriptures and a missionary ethos, provides a rich context for a community of faith and graduate learning.
