The 2021 annual Anglican Episcopal House of Studies (AEHS) Study Day at Duke Divinity School will feature Dr. Rowan Williams, the former archbishop of Canterbury, speaking on "Theology for the Life of the Church."  

The annual Study Day offers clergy, other ministry professionals, and students the chance to learn and reflect on a substantial topic relating to theology and ministry.

This free event is online and open to all, but registration is required.

This year's main speaker at the Virtual AEHS Day Study will be Dr. Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and a Welsh Anglican bishop, theologian, and poet. He was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, a position he held from December 2002 to December 2012. He is acknowledged internationally as an outstanding scholar, teacher, poet, and theologian, and has written extensively across a wide range of related fields including philosophy, theology, spirituality, and religious aesthetics. Previously the Bishop of Monmouth and Archbishop of Wales, Williams was the first Archbishop of Canterbury in modern times not to be appointed from within the Church of England. In 2013, he returned to academia by serving as master of Magdalene College, Cambridge from 2013 to 2020.

There also will be a panel discussion with theologians Michael Battle, Ph.D., Herbert Thompson Professor of Church and Society and director of the Desmond Tutu Center at General Theological Seminary; Christopher Beeley, Ph.D., Jack and Barbara Bovender Professor of Theology, Anglican Studies, and Ministry as well as director of the Anglican Episcopal House of Studies at Duke Divinity School; Jeremy Begbie, Ph.D., director of Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts (DITA) and the Thomas A. Langford Distinguished Research Professor of Theology at Duke Divinity School; Hans Boersma, Ph.D., Chair, Order of St. Benedict Servants of Christ Endowed Professorship in Ascetical Theology at Nashotah House Theological Seminary; and Kate Sonderegger, Ph.D., William Meade Chair of Systematic Theology at Virginia Theological Seminary.
