St. John’s in the Village, New York, is hosting an online Lenten series. They invite you to participate online here. Topics include Lent and Scripture; Lent and the Liturgy; and Lent and the English Reformation.

St. John’s recently welcomed Dr. Garwood Anderson, Provost and Professor of New Testament at Nashotah House, as the first of their guest preachers in their Lenten series 'Lenses on Lent'.

Lent and Scripture

Dr. Garwood Anderson is Professor of New Testament and also Provost & President of Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. He is the author of Paul's New Perspective: Charting a Soteriological Journey and of many scholarly articles in New Testament studies. Dr. Anderson preaches at the 8:30 a.m. Litany & Eucharist (said) and at the 11 a.m. Great Litany & Sung Eucharist.

Lent and Liturgy

The Reverend Professor Paul F. Bradshaw is a distinguished scholar in the field of liturgics. He is Emeritus Professor of Liturgy, University of Notre Dame, Indiana, and past President both of the North American Academy of Liturgy and of the international Societas Liturgica. The most recent of his very many publications, Egeria: Journey to the Holy Land, will be published this Lent. Professor Bradshaw preaches at the 8:30 a.m. Eucharist (said) and at the 11 a.m. Sung Eucharist.

Lent and the English Reformation

Dr. Lucy Wooding is the Langford Fellow and Tutor in History at Lincoln College, Oxford, and also Fellow Archivist of the College. She is the author of Henry VIII (Routledge 2008; second edition 2015) and of many scholarly articles on English 16th century religious and cultural history. Dr. Wooding preaches at the 8:30 a.m. Eucharist (said) and at the 11 a.m. Sung Eucharist.

Lent and Art: a glimpse of the cosmic dance (an artist explores Lent)

The Reverend Canon Robert Wright LVO has been variously Canon and Sub-Dean of Westmin- ster Abbey, Archdeacon of Westminster, and Chap- lain to the Speaker of the (UK) House of Com- mons. He is also an internationally-exhibited ab- stract painter.

Canon Wright preaches at the 8:30 a.m. Eucharist (said) and at the 11 a.m. Sung Eucharist.

Lent and Music
The Very Reverend Dr Andreas Loewe 
is the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne, Australia. A graduate of both Oxford and Cambridge Universities, he is the author of Johann Sebastian Bach’s "St John Passion" (BWV 245): A Theological Commentary and writes and lectures both on theology and music. He is an honorary fellow and lecturer at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (UK). Dean Loewe preaches at the 8:30 a.m. Eucharist (said) and at the 11 a.m. Sung Eucharist.

Lent and Annunciation

The Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO is the Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Perth and Metropolitan of the Province of Western Australia (Anglican Church of Australia), having formerly been Bishop of Gippsland. Consecrated bishop in 2008 she became Australia’s first female bishop. Educated at Trinity College, University of Melbourne, Kay has served in various ministries including that of parish priest, school chaplain, and archdeacon.

The Archbishop preaches at the 6:15 p.m. Sung Eucharist.
